Back to God Celebrities
Once they were mad bad and dangerous to know, now they are suckers for God. Strange but true, celebs have turned to the Divine to set their personal record straight and enrich their spiritual heart, and that includes fab Mark Wahlberg.
Wahlberg was a violent street kid in another life. He dealt drugs and spent time in prison He had what many would call a rough past. He ended up jailed for attempted murder. He said that it was one of life’s lowest points.
He was so desperate about the harm he had done, he remembered falling to his knees in prayer and turning to God for forgiveness. His connection to the Divine has grown stronger over time. He is not shy of talking about his faith.
He says. “For me to sit down and ask for material things is ridiculous. It’s a much bigger picture than that. I want to serve God and to be a good human being and make up for the mistakes I made and the pain I put people through,”
Angelina Jolie
Angelina was sure God did not exist that was until she directed the movie “Unbroken!” The movie is based on the life of super athlete and American hero Louis Zamberini, a devote Christian.
Zamberini’s daughter was astounded, she said “Angelina was not a person of faith and had never prayed before but she found herself at the very last scene of the movie and they needed sunlight to shoot this very important scene and there had been a storm that had been going on for awhile.
Angelina said, ‘I don’t know what I’m going to do so I’ll do what Louis would do.’ She got on her knees and prayed for a miracle; everybody saw it. It stopped raining. She was moved by my father’s faith to try that!
“I think maybe in God’s plan for Angelina, she was supposed to find Louis and make this movie to find her way to a life that would encompass the Almighty.”
Jane Fonda
Jane Fonda was a sixties flower child, a hottie Hollywood movie star, who stood up to controversy and the war in Vietnam, shocking Americans with her bold anti Vietnam war statements. She was once photographed along with the Viet Cong and was accused of betraying her country. She never turned to the Almighty to solve her challenges however. In fact, Jane always thought of herself as an atheist, until some friends asked her whether she would like to come along to a Sunday Service. She was so moved during the service, she felt Christ’s within her heart. “My faith is a work in progress as am I,” she once said.
Denzel Washington
Denzel is a retiring type of man, an introvert who does not like to talk about his life to reporters. But Denzel is also a man of faith. In fact it was his faith that kept him strong during all the up and down phases of his movie career. He told Dillard University graduates to “put God first in everything you do.”
“While you’re on your knees, say thank you. Thank you for grace, thank you for mercy, thank you for understanding, thank you for wisdom, thank you for parents, thank you for love, thank you for kindness, thank you for humility, thank you for peace, thank you for prosperity.”
Donna Summer
The popular black songstress Donna Summer became a born again Christian. As a result she experienced “a dark night of the soul!” she told a reporter she was tired of performing songs with sexy lyrics.
“If I have to perform those songs, it’s part of the weight I have to carry because of the wrong I’ve done. I have to acknowledge that I built this bed and I’ve gotta lay in it. There will come a time when I won’t have to ever do those things again. But it’s like the old remnants that you still have to clear out of your house. You can’t clean your house in one day so I’m going about it methodically.
“I think that if I were to do an about-face and do spiritual songs, I would lose contact with all those people that would buy my records. I feel like I’m doing what I have to do!
Donna continued to develop her faith. Like most celebrities who love God they might also say “I feel like I’m doing what I have to do!” But this time it is for God!
