Best Books Astrology

Classic writers or the newest novels on the block? Few distain an engrossing summer read. As we sit on the balcony, patio or beach, thumbing through those pages we tend to forget economic crises, earth quakes, terrorism and useless wars. We breathe a deep sigh instead, and lose ourselves in the pages, happy to partake of words that carry us off to some far off shore! So what are the books our Astro Club might dig on their summer hols?

ARIES

Nothing like your classic “bodice ripper” for fiery Aries! Their lives are action packed epics anyway, to read poetry and philosophical musings in August is far too “heavy duty” for fiery rams. Their “ripper” therefore is that old classic “Gone with the Wind!” There is something immortal about that phrase “Fiddle Dee Dee!” or “I can’t think about that now. If I do I will go crazy, I will think about it tomorrow!” In fact, such sayings will have the raucous ram lost in emotional delight. Ten out of ten for their “Gone with the Wind” summer saga.

TAURUS

Taurus likes a basic summer read. Being earthy, means getting a firm grip on finances, food and sex. Taurus likes dreaming up recipes and will totally relax if they have the latest edition of the “Betty Crocker Cookbook” in their hands. Reading about all those home cooked recipes as one lounges in the hammock is a sheer delight; especially when one has been eating too much spicy food and running to the bathroom all week! A basic ten out of ten for this sane and safe cookery classic.

GEMINI

Intellectually geared Gemini’s like something they can get their “proverbial teeth” into, something they can ponder over, be stimulated by. Historical/ romantic novels bore them. Cook books irritate them. Yet, airy Gemini’s will go super ballistic over the ultimate “A Brief History of Time” by Stephen Hawking. Gemini’s cannot get enough of “big bang” “black hole” “light cone” “cosmology “theories. The universe is definitely their thing as is their nine out of ten “on the ball” summer reading vote!

CANCER

Moody Cancers are more than often closet romantics and “die hard” conservatives. They are also moody and tenacious. Therefore, it is always encouraging to read how other people overcame life’s challenges by being hard headed and sticking their claws in. Margaret Thatcher’s biography “There is No Alternative. Why Margaret Thatcher Matters” will have our crabby crab glued to every paragraph. Cancer votes ten out of ten because they always admire a strong mother figure!

LEO

Leo’s natural love affair with Italy is renowned! That hot climate, those open hearted people, those fascinating Roman ruins – delicious cappuccinos and floor tiles included. Latin “excess” appeals to this pussy cat. Therefore, what could be more intriguing than “The Dark Heart of Italy”, by Tobias Jones? This epistle discusses the corrupt Berlusconi government, and the mechanisms of church and state? See your Leo riveted to their deckchair as the Neapolitan sun castes a very long shadow. Ten out of ten to this Latin litany!

VIRGO

Virgo can be an anxious sign. Their penchant for perfection tends to make summer holidays less than a delight, especially if the beach is a shambles. If they don’t want to succumb to summer hol super-stress they need to read about folks who are far worse off than they are. Therefore Lemony Snicket’s “A Series of Unfortunate Events” will have them glued to the page. The grim description of two innocent kids losing their parents and consequently falling into the hands of a wicked uncle, who attempts to embezzle their fortune, is the ultimate in Virgo stress buster! A hearty ten out of anxious ten!

LIBRA

“How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie could be the Libran favourite. Yes, Libra digs diplomacy. A harmonious environment is necessary to this sign’s peace of mind. In fact, they would get very upset if they had to ask the chambermaid to change the towels. Advice on strategic human interactions makes Dale Carnegie’s epistle a Libran “must read”! No matter if they are on holiday, or down the back garden, there is always some argument to sort out. Ten out of ten for winning friends – which is so much better than summer bickering!

SCORPIO

“The Exorcist” by William Peter Blatty might be a bit old hat, but if Scorpio wants to relax, there is nothing better than getting into a bit of demonic possession! Whether they are sitting under a palm tree, or snuggling under the sheets with their honey, this weirdo occult classic will definitely get them scared enough to relax. Ten out of ten for thrill seeking Scorpios!

SAGITTARIUS

Tripper Saggy’s idea of a summer break is rock climbing expeditions and sharing tents. This “natural born explorer” loves sifting through the pages of “The Lonely Planet Guidebooks”. “Lonely Planet” is the best way to understand what a country has to offer. It also lists the cheaper type hotel, the ideal budget shopping areas and interesting tips when it comes to fighting bulls and eating snails! Ten out of ten for super travel advice – Saggy’s preferred summer read!

CAPRICORN

Responsible Cappys like to laugh on summer holidays. Heavy duty biographies can be amusing, but screaming with hilarity at the goings on of “Bridget Jones” is far more fun! Caps like to read about nice, upper class gals getting into hot water and making fools of themselves. Jane Austen is all very well, but a tad too time consuming on your average summer hol! Nothing like Helen Fielding’s “Jones Sequels” to get so light hearted one could dance on the beach. A joyful eight out of ten!

AQUARIUS

It will take a lot to get the classic Aquarian to sit down with a book on their hols. They prefer making lots of new friends at “UFO Congresses” or “Save the Dolphin” international functions. However at a pinch they will glance at “The Guinness Book of Records!” To actually find out who has the longest nails, the largest tonsils, the wackiest dog ears is rather “Monty Python”. The “unusual” appeals to the eccentric Water Carrier’s sense of humour. Such odd reading material might even inspire wacky Aquarius to stuff 28 Spaniards into the hotel broom cupboard. An eccentric eight out of ten then!

PISCES

Pisces digs de-stressing romantic novels “alla” Mills and Boon”. This sensitive water sign has brought a few top titles down the beach, such as” The Bognor Autumn Beach Scandals” “The Prettiest Damsel on the High Seas” or “Eternal Sacrifice for Love!” They are true romantics, and the last thing they want is to get intellectual on summer hols, life is difficult enough as it is! Ten out of ten for originality!
