Ear candle therapy is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions. Hopi Candles are used frequently at practices. Ear candles induce a soothing heat upon the head and ears, which relieves and relaxes. This is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. Ear candles were used traditionally by Shamen healers. The candles are still made today on the basis of the old traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians. The candles are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St Johns Wort, chamomile, beta-carotene and organic flax. The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. Though results may vary from patient to patient, some people have reported Hopi Candles to be helpful with excessive wax in the ears. sinusitis or rhinitis, colds ,flu ,headaches and migraine. You will be asked to lie comfortably and listen to relaxing music. The candle is then gently placed into the canal, where it is lit. It will be held it in a vertical position, the therapist hands keeping the candle steady and preventing any ash falling on to you. You will experience a pleasant crackling sound as the candle burns and a warm comfortable feeling. It is only allowed to burn to within 4 inches of the end of the candle. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it into the base of the candle. The candle is then removed and the ear is then massaged. The treatment is repeated on the other ear and then a complete facial massage is carried out. Ear candles can help with the treatment of sinusitis, rhinitis, earwax, earache and irritation of the ears including tinnitus. It is also suitable for the treatment of headaches and migraines. It is not suitable for those with perforated eardrums, where grommets are in place or those who may have an allergy to the ingredients. It is also a safe and gentle treatment for children. Most people find the whole experience very relaxing. Some fall asleep during treatment. The treatment usually lasts about ½ hour.
