When we ask a medium to contact deceased loved ones, we are asking for comfort. For now, the pain is too hard to bear; our loved one’s absence is heart breaking. We cannot bear the struggle and the emotional hell of severe emotional loss. Yet, how challenging it is to believe that they live on somewhere. How hard it is to think that there is life after death. After all, we are living in a rational world; such metaphysical “goings on” might seem akin to Santa Claus!

To contact deceased friends and relatives is a huge challenge for many of us. We can hardly bear to. In fact we might feel as if we are quite insane to even attempt to. Yet something within, something we cannot fathom, pushes us to call a number or make an appointment with a medium whose life purpose it is to contact deceased loved ones, and become their voice for us.

Life after Death

But what really happens after we die? Do those who contact deceased souls really know? There is much channeled material that describes life after death. If we read some of it, we become aware that it is rich with meaning and complexity. Yet, we ask ourselves, how do mediums attune to the true spirit realms? How can a spirit enter a medium’s body and their consciousness and speak through them? We have heard that even the medical profession is investigating the phenomena at Southampton University, but what proof have they shown so far, does anyone really know?

The teachings of metaphysical schools such as Rudolf Steiner’s and Alice Bailey’s gives us some intriguing answers. The general overview however, is that we are all “part and parcel” of the Creator’s one manifestation, which is so multifarious that the human mind cannot fathom it.

The quantum physicist David Bohm saw the universe as a holographic process, made of complex wave systems of different velocities, frequencies and qualities. Could these diverse frequencies be part of the world reported on by “Near Death Experiencers”, those who have survived death to tell the tale of other realities? So what could they really see on the “other side?” Was it akin to the intricacies of a computer system; if we press one button we will get one reality, if we press another the reality we see could astound us?

Near Death Experiences

The fact is, the majority who report Near Death Experiences always mention that tunnel and a beautiful place of indescribable light and love at the end of it. But some others do report that they were flung down to hell and tormented by demons, even others that they were lost in a grey, nameless reality where there was nothing but mist and darkness.

Perhaps reports of hells and purgatories are actually the states of mind we carry to the other side, the ones that remained with us when we were alive, which include our own belief systems, i.e. if we are Christian, Christ will come to meet us at the Golden Gates, if we are Muslim it will be Allah. But the main issue is if there really is this benign God force working through life on earth, heaven and even hell, why does He not show us more of what hides behind reality? A reality that could be compared to Dr Who’s Tardis, you think you are entering a police box, but in reality you have entered a time voyager, and can travel throughout the galaxy and negotiate diverse multi -dimensions.

The truth might be that we do indeed live in that proverbial “house of many mansions/dimensions”, and some of these are physical and others are metaphysical. Perhaps understanding the wonders of the paranormal has something to do with an open mind, and a capacity to go beyond the illusion of what “appears” to be real. In fact, going beyond “appearances” might be what a medium who contacts deceased loved ones is doing. She is going further than rigid thought forms, she is stretching her vision as far as the impossible!
